F1000 – Getting The Bars Right

Posted on Posted in F1000 Racing Car

We’ve recently started a thread on Apex Speed after some advice from the Australian Formula 1000 Association recommended that we visit there to chat with builders and owners of these cars in America, where the series has enjoyed success and growth over the last decade. And one important lesson we learned right away was that the motorcycle engine does not perform well when included in the design as a stressed member. This has meant a rethink of the rear chassis design and something we are not yet happy with and therefore won’t be posting any images until we have our torsional rigidity up to where we need it (around 30K N/degree).

Idea’s we will be exploring include:

  • Using stress aluminium plate/panels in this area
  • Extending the cast aluminium rear structure
  • Creating a new stressed valve cover and other engine parts
