The MDS Formula 1000 needs to showcase our design and manufacturing capabilities, but at the same time it needs to be designed from the outset to be competitive. After reading through the regulations there were a lot of similarities with FIA Formula 3 relating to overall dimensions, wheelbase, track etc. Our first step will be to build up a kinematics models to test out different suspension geometries. Current F3 trends follow F1 trends; a high nose to energise the floor from an aero stand point, leading to front geometry that at first glance looks compromised. We will explore both this type of geometry and a more typical lower nose geometry and compare results.
